Europe seen from the train – the “Roots” edition (Bavaria, the Alps and British Isles)

In 2021, the EU Year of Rail, I started documenting all of Europe through the train window. My big trip in 2023 took me to the British Isles – not only the home of my ancestors but also the cradle of railway history. Almost two hundred years after the first railway transported passengers between Stockton and Darlington in 1825, I set off with my sister to travel England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland , and the Isle of Man by Interrail. The first stop, by the way, was Darlington ;-)

In the calendar for 2024, I show the most beautiful motifs from this trip together with other pictures taken in 2023. Not only when travelling far and wide, but also in my home state of Bavaria. Because the magic of landscapes in motion can start right on your doorstep.

The texts on the last page will be in English (about me, my work, and some of the most extraordinary trains). To make this calendar international, I have foregone marking holidays, so the minimalistic calendar only marks Sundays. Why so minimalistic you ask? A lot of people tell me that they leave the calendar up for more than a year, displaying their favourite picture. So I don’t want to distract from the art. Maybe your favourite is in this calendar too, and can brighten up your home for more than a month?

I would be thrilled!
